A Tool to be More Productive, Focused and Motivated!

 Journaling is a powerful productivity and motivational tool!

Let’s all stop for a second and think about this!  Would you agree that tools, supplies and proven ideas can help us be become more and more productive, focused and motivated? Great the let us take a look at how journaling can fit in!

Journaling is a nourishing and positive self-care practice that is fun, creative and always uniquely your own. With journaling, whatever you write is right!

This is my favorite tool and allows me to organize my thoughts and gain clarity on my priorities.  Journaling also helps me to plan action steps in connection with my regular journal writing practice.

Here are 3 Ways that Journaling can Help You Be More Productive, Focused and Motivated

1) Use Journaling to Process Your Thoughts, Feelings – and Blocks!

Journal writing offers you a place to vent, release stress and process emotions that might cause be causing you upsets in your world.  In fact, your journal is a place to explore your thoughts on both our productivity and procrastination.

“The daily journal is like a mirror. When we first look into it, the blank pages stare back with ominous emptiness. But if we keep looking… gradually we begin to see the face that is looking back at us.” Marion Woodman

Here is a great Journaling Activity:

Set aside 10 minutes a day to write your thoughts and feelings about productivity and/or procrastination. Try these journaling prompts to help you get started:

  • I am most productive when…
  • I sometimes find myself procrastinating when…
  • The key areas in my life where I would like to be more productive at this time include…

2) Gain Clarity – It is important to focus on what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. Please remember some things might also come up that you might like to stop doing.

Here is a great Journaling Activity:

Make a list of the Top 10 Goals in your Life at this time. Then take a look at each goal and make a list of the action steps you need to take to reach this goal.

Here is an example of what I am talking about for my business productivity over the next 2 weeks😊

Business Goal:  Sign up 10 new clients for life coaching

Action Steps:

  • Send out at least 2 emails to my email list in next 2 weeks
  • Write 4 blogs and share it broadly in next two weeks
  • Ask for people to support locally with the hopes of getting myself and local company’s new clients
  • Repost 2 online courses for the public to sign up for during our time at home to help with self-discovery

Personal Goal: Work on becoming a healthier me😊

Action Steps:

  • Get in a minimum of 4 miles a day of hiking and walking
  • Drink Celery juice every morning upon wake up 30 minutes before intaking anything else to help with inflammation
  • Get outside time under the sun and in the fresh air daily (min of 1 hours)
  • Plant my garden to help with fresh food
  • Take a moment before making every meal to think about how it will be nourishing my body and if it does not change my plan on what I am cooking!

3) Making Journaling a Habit – Journaling is a healthy habit and can help create other habits that increase our motivation.

I have been journaling for many years.  I have explored my life habits (both positive and negative) and this reflective practice has helped me include more positive habits and success in my life! It has also helped me to break ‘bad’ habits – or those things that do not serve me.

Here is a great Journaling Activity:

Make a list of the things you do on a regular basis that make a positive difference in your life. Include habits such as journal writing, setting goals, taking daily inspired action towards your goals etc. Take time to write these down, and notice how you feel as you do this.

Also consider, “What is one new habit you might like to start at this time?” for me it was celery juice… lol

Remember to simply write, reflect and notice without judgement and with compassion for whatever might emerge in your writing, and within yourself.

As a Life Coach, I know that positive habits can make our days and lives better. How we start our day can contribute to our having a good – or a bad – morning.  Journaling can help you be more productive, focused and motivated in your own life and work!

Further, journal writing can help deepen our mindful presence, process emotions and help with our well-being.

It’s never too late to start journaling, or to take your current journal writing to a next level of creative self-expression in service to your goals and well-being.
