Hey – question of the day… who loves starting the day off with a long, hot shower to really wake yourself up and get moving.

Well would you believe me if I said that there is a huge list of benefits that come from cold water.  A cold bath or a cold shower might not sound all that appealing, but the positive effects of icy water, which could make you rethink you morning shower ritual.

Cold water methods have been around for centuries and there are many benefits from taking the “icy plunge.”

Here are some reasons why cold water can benefit your health and your mental state. Who knew that cold water could actually help prevent colds or make your hair shinier?

#1 Fights Depression

If you suffer from depression, you should discuss this idea with your doctor. But please know that cold water has been known to have a positive effect on those feeling depressed.   “Cold showers have been shown to relieve depression symptoms due to the intense impact of cold receptors in the skin… It produces an anti-depressive effect, and boosts moods, making it a pick-me-up.” MedicalDaily.com

#2 Relief if Muscle Soreness

Anyone who knows me, knows, I LOVE and highly recommend Ice baths – the best way to relieve aching muscles. “Cold water baths appear to be significantly more effective than rest in relieving delayed-onset muscle soreness, which typically occurs one to four days after exercise or other physical activity.” Dr. J Mercola

#3 Strengthens the Immune System

Cold water stimulates the release of substances vital to immune function, such as cytokines. It might seem really nice to take a hot shower when you are feeling under the weather, but cold water can be even more beneficial to the immune system.

#6 Increases Circulation

A great way to improve circulation is by taking an ice bath, or by soaking the low-circulation area in ice water, such as a foot bath.  “As cold water hits the body, its ability to get blood circulating leads the arteries to more efficiently pump blood.”

Ok so if you like any of the above try a plunge. I’ve done it a few times and its was great!

Peace Out!
