The Coast, Florence, Waldport, Sea Lions and Laughs

This week I was joined by my good friend Kate Taylor from NC for my weekly Walk About With Wendy.  I am very honored to have such a good friend who together we can just BE, the silly us! We decided to go to the Coast during our Walk about so off we went!

We started out from Cottage grove, Oregon and headed out the 50 miles or so to Florence which is on the coast.  Our first stop  – Heceta Head Lighthouse 13 miles north of Florence, and 13 miles south of Yachats.  It is located at Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint, a state park, midway up a 205-foot-tall headland.  The Light house is on a bluff that jets out on a bluff.  The view is spectacular and is ust past the Sea Lion Caves (Yes we stopped there too but all the Sea Lions are exploring the ocean right now)

We walked up the gravel path l(a mile slightly uphill) past a few outbuildings and out to the lighthouse.  Beautiful .   I also found out that there are more trails and in fact there is a  7-mile trail network through Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic Viewpoint that you can bet I will be exploring soon if anyone wants to join.

We then headed to Devils Chun which reminded me how powerful and beautiful the Ocean is.  Here we learned that the ocean creates a foam like you see on the top of your lattes… lol but its all natural and it’s a mixture of salt biopankton or something like that :).  Pretty cool  then we headed to Smelt beach where I of course went out looking for drift wood but to my surprise I found some cool shells instead!

Today was filled with laughs, giggles, new sightseeing and the reminder to take the time to smell the roses and to continue to appreciate those around you who are really the reasons for part of my  happiness and love of adventure.  Thanks Kate!

So there you have it folks… The most current Walk about with Wendy.
