While at the pool recently, swimming laps and doing my thing…… A nice lady started talking to me about how nice it was to get in the warm pool after swimming laps in the “not so warm” pool 😊.  I responded with an astonishing YES and then made the comment that aren’t rewards wonderful!  IT was here I was taken back by her response…. Yes rewards are great as long as they are not food.

Now I sat with this for quite some time. I instantly went to boy is she right especially as a food addict myself.  But over the next couple hours this conversation both in the pool and in my head lol did not sit right.

Rewarding yourself with a delicious food item is often viewed as a negative habit, but it is important to understand that food not only provides us with a necessary nutrients for our bodies, but it also has the power to heal us from the inside out.  When we restrict ourselves from enjoying food, we end up hindering our relationship with it, leading to a negative and unfulfilling experience.  Let us remember that we have to eat food as humans to survive, and yes making good choices is KEY but not allowing food as a reward sometimes only fosters a hate -hate relationship with food, and how the heck are we supposed to live with that?

Food is not only a source of sustenance, but it is also a form of enjoyment and pleasure.  Allowing yourself to indulge in a treat/reward every now and then can bring a sense of happiness and satisfaction.  This not only improves your mood, but it also helps you develop a healthy relationship with food.  When you allow yourself to enjoy food, you become more mindful of what you eat and the impact it has on your body.  This helps you make more informed decisions about your eating habits and leads to a healthier overall relationship with food.

Additionally, treating yourself with a yummy food item can also have psychological benefits. Food can act as a form of comfort and provide a sense of security, especially during difficult times. This can help reduce stress and anxiety, which can have a positive impact on both physical and mental health

It is important to keep in mind that moderation is key when it comes to treating yourself with food. Indulging in unhealthy food items regularly can lead to negative health consequences, such as weight gain and an increased risk of chronic diseases. However, allowing yourself to enjoy a treat in moderation can help you maintain a healthy relationship with food and prevent binge eating.

So, there you have it guys…. rewarding yourself with a yummy food item is not a negative habit, as long as it is done in moderation. Food not only provides us with the necessary nutrients, but it also has the power to heal us and bring joy and satisfaction. By allowing yourself to enjoy food, you develop a healthy relationship with it, which leads to a more positive and fulfilling experience. So go ahead, treat yourself to that piece of chocolate or that slice of pizza, and enjoy the benefits of a healthy relationship with food.
