What is your word or Motto for the New Year?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Every Year on New Years Day I post a similar message.  Why?  Because we are taught that this is the time of year again when we close out the old and bring in the new (though I really wish everyone realized this can be done at any time they see fit to bring in the new).

However, as traditions work, it is that time and the new year is finally here.  I know many of us are thinking about the changes we want to make in our lives.  Many are making “New Year’s resolutions”, setting goals and motivated to achieve them.  But sometimes, it can be easy to get overwhelmed by the pressures to make big changes, and we may lose sight of what is truly important to us!

Resolutions are great, but they are better if you have a plan! It can change your world for the better.  You can push you to the next level of greatness!  Take a few moments, allow yourself to be honest with you, be willing to take a chance to enhance and try it… you might be surprised!

So, in case you are asking, and I want to think you are asking, here are some things that I suggest and no they do not have to be your ideas but maybe just maybe these can spark your thoughts:

  1. I am a big believer in picking a word to keep me focused throughout the year. Sometimes my word changes mid-year and that too is ok because change happens.  Frankly we are better off if we can change with our actions instead of staying with something that is not going the right way anymore!!!!

This year My word for the year is engage (again)!  And just to be different this year, I think I am sticking with my motto…. Engage by taking risks = adventure and growth on every level! Because I am on a roll!

Why is this important?  Everyday life moves fast things are throw at us from all directions and we as humans tend to get sidetracked… lots of squirrel moments.  This is why I pick a word for the year, and this year I am again including a motto with my word included.  If you are asking how this helps let me explain.  Once a week I refer back to this word and motto so that I can bring myself back to my goals and plans for the year.  I, like all of you, have a lot going on and life seems to take over a lot.  But when I use this word and motto method, I tend to bring myself back to where I want to be in the moment!  It’s a really great tool. Try it!

It’s only the first and I have already done two things with this word and motto in the forefront, and I am excited to see where things go… Hopefully growth, great memories, adventure, deeper love connections and I’m excited to watch this play out!

  • This year I am focusing on Letting go of things that don’t make me happy on a new level – I do want to put a cavoite on this though.  This does not mean someone pisses me off and they are dead to me.  I believe that communication is the universal solvent and I believe in communicating to work through thing.

What I am talking about is- Communicating with those that want to and with those looking for connecting and raising each other up and to move on from those that do not or those who think they do but in fact only do acts of taking others down to make themselves look good.   There is a big difference here and I think it’s important.  Toxicity is a big work right now and rightfully so, but it DOES NOT MEAN… you upset me by not doing what I think you should so I’m disengaging….  This is a big topic, and I will be going into detail throughout January for sure!

  • Clean up my food intake – Wait WHAAAAAAAT?  Most everyone who knows me or follows me knows, I am VEGAN and very proud of it.  Now while my reasons for going vegan were my reasons and remembering that everybody’s reasons are different, I still do partake in choices that are probably not so good on the healthier side of food.  For example. I had Oreos yesterday. OIY, this is wrong on so many levels and I know it.  So, my change for this time of new beginnings is to make better choices on food.  I mean, I love hot chocolate and whipped cream… no just kidding, well maybe not, but a better choice for me would be some Celery juice followed by some Hot mushroom tea with a bit of coconut cream and some cinnamon to top it off (don’t knock it its actually yummy) – the benefits for me are healthier and frankly my body will not crash from all the sugar, and it tastes good too.
  • Exercise daily – This past year has been brutal for me on this!  Yes, I hike and get outdoors into nature a lot because I teach, educate, and truly believe that NATUREHEALS®, but I have slowed down a bit and my body, mind and soul are craving more.  This does not mean I will be hiking millions of miles a week or force myself to go to the gym because “I have too”.  It just means I will be doing more activities to keep my body moving and healthy which in turn keeps my mind clean and healthy.  I do have a VR and to be honest I have no excuses not to use the exercise programs on there if I can not get out… I mean they are pretty good.
  • Write, paint, or do some sort of Creativity EVERY SINGLE DAY and then actually share it and let others enjoy it too.  Well. here we are again, I am writing in the dark, and I even started several new projects lately… Well started being the key word, but the end result will be amazing. My goals in following my word and motto will be followed by engaging by taking risks and actually putting my art out there more and more!
  • I have several retreats in the process this year.  Truth be told I benefit just as much as others…. So, they I always look forward to!!!

New Year’s resolutions or words or mottos or – fail only because:

  • They’re unspecific. We say “I want to get healthy this year” but when faced with birthday parties, overtime, or the family vacations, that goal gets sets aside to birthday cake, fast food, and midnight buffets.
  • They’re unrealistic. “I want to work out at the gym 5x/week.” Is this even possible if you actually went to the gym once a month last year? Setting unrealistic goals is the fastest way to failure.

OK, I am sure you get the point. If you have not yet gotten it then let me spell it out… SELF-CARE, LISTENING TO YOUR BODY and LEARNING TO LIVE LIFE TO YOUR FULL POTENTIAL THE WAY, YOU IMAGINED IT AND ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE OF IT is the message I hope you hear!  NOW IS THE TIME!

Isn’t it time that you look at things, review, reflect, and enjoy a whole hell of a lot of adventures, happiness, and self-care?  These are all good things for you to live your life just the way you have always imagined.

Try thinking of it this way… there is nothing to “fix” and there is nothing “broken” it is just time for self-growth, because you deserve to live your best life the way you always imagined you could!

I leave you with this….

Are you ready to look at things in your life, tweak a few, throw out a few and well enhance a few things so that you can be living life the way you imagine?  Are you ready for EMPOWERMENT?

Cheers to a great 2024 full of choices made by you and not for you!

Peace, Love and Happiness, NatureHeals!!!
